Founder
Abdul Rehman Dakri
Mr Abdul Rehman Dakri moved to Malaysia from the UK eighteen years ago with the sole aim of giving back to the community and opening a children's home.
The inspiration for Rumah Aman came about almost 40 years ago, when Mr Dakri saw a documentary about an English woman, who worked as a flight attendant, and had given up everything she had in England in order to help the poor in a small town in Bangladesh. He thought to himself, “when I retire, I must do that, but I will do it better.”
To realise his dream, Our Home : Rumah Aman was registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales in March 2004. The name Rumah Aman which means Peaceful Home was researched by a friend in England. In January 2005, Rumah Aman (Shah Alam) Berhad, a company limited by guarantee was then registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia to manage Rumah Aman Orphanage and Welfare Home which began operations in Shah Alam, Selangor in June of the same year.
Mr Abdul Rehman Dakri and his wife are now residing under the Malaysia My 2nd. Home Programme.

Co Founder Mehrunessa Dakri
Mehrunessa Dakri, wife to Mr Abdul Rehman Dakri and fondly known as Nannyma is the Co-Founder of Rumah Aman. At the age of 18 years old she left Malawi, Africa to marry Abdul Rehman Dakri. Since then, she joined Mr Abdul Rahman Dakri in the textile business.
It has been a long-time dream for she and her husband to establish an orphanage for the poor and needy children once they retire. Finally, after visiting a few countries, by the grace of Allah, they decided to make Malaysia their home.
Mrs Dakri and her husband always make sure that the children they took in wouldn't be treated as orphans but rather as their own children, which what makes Rumah Aman so special.
Mrs Dakri is extremely loving and passionate in everything she had done and she always make sure that they will do everything in their power to provide the children with anything a child would need or want. She has dedicated all her time and effort in making Rumah Aman such a success together with her husband.

“Do not discount anyone in life, there is always someone better than you and always someone worse than you. But, if you focus on the worst, you’ll forget the good.”
